“Don’t be afraid… Go Back.  I am your Mother”

Those are the words Fr. Francis Ted Pfeifer says he heard, and will never forget when afraid for his life after an alleged Mexican drug cartel attack, he asked “La Virgen De Guadalupe” for guidance.   Padre Francisco, as many knew him during his missionary service in Mexico, served as an Oblate Missionary south of the border for more than 40 years.

In his recently published memoirs titled “When The Wolves Came”  The Missionary Life of an Oblate Priest in Mexico, 1963-2007.  Fr. Ted recalls his beloved Zapotec and Chontal Indians communities at a time when only faith and courage, he says, gave him the strength and the perseverance to serve God through his Oblate Missionary work with the poor in Mexico.

Fr. Pfeifer story is now being developed as a documentary aligned with his book “When the Wolves Came” www.whenthewolvescame.com.

More recently Fr. Francis Theodore Pfeifer was also interviewed by the news media.  Here is one of those stories courtesy of News4-WOAI in San Antonio, Texas.  The Associated Press (AP) also published an article and interview with Fr. Pfeifer here.
