In Lourdes, France, on the 11th of February, 1858, the virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette Soubirous and asked her to pray the rosary.   Our Lady of Lourdes first instructed Bernadette to "Go drink of the spring there, go wash in it". Shortly after a spring of water came forth.  Since that time thousands continue to flock to the spring to be cured of ills.  This Lourdes holy water is highly treasured for it's miraculous healing powers.

Over the spring at the Grotto in Lourdes, France, is a message written in seven languages that reads:  "'Like Bernadette, wash your face and pray that God purify your heart."  Remembering Our Lady's words to Bernadette, thousands of pilgrims approach the spring at Lourdes each day to wash their face or bathe in the water, a symbol of Our Mother's love and presence.  Profound faith allows these persons to experience great marvels.
