Establish a Burse or contribute to an existing one now
There continues to be an alarming shortage of new vocations to Oblate life, particularly in the United States. Many Oblates who now minister are nearing reduced active ministry. Will there be priests to minister to our families and in the missions?
To help meet necessary educational expenses for their seminarians, the Oblates have established Seminarian Scholarship Burses. A Burse is a sum of money made up of large and small donations. When the Burse amount reaches $15,000.00, the money is invested wisely and safely, with the principal never being touched. Only the interest is used to defray the cost of seminarians' education. When a seminarian reaches ordination, the Burse continues to work, for those continuing in Oblate formation programs.
With a minimum of $500.00 and a pledge to donate toward the balance regularly, you can start a Reserved Memorial Burse. This is "reserved" in that only the donor or a specific group of donors, e.g., Altar Society, parish guild, family, etc., can contribute. The Burse can be named in commemoration of a friend or loved one, living or deceased. You may add toward the $15,000.00 goal at any time, in any amount. You also have the option of contributing to an existing Burse with a smaller gift.
Oblate seminarians' prayers continue for you, their benefactor. For always, there will be new priests and Brothers grateful to you for helping to bring their dream to reality. A hundred years from now, the Burse you so generously endowed will still be furnishing needed funds to help more of God's servants reach their goal as Oblates.
You may also fund a Burse by making provisions in your will, through a gift of stock, bonds, retirement funds, insurance, or other securities. Our legal title is "Oblate Missions / US Province of the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate", with address 323 Oblate Dr., San Antonio, TX 78216.
