The Oblates of this region stand in contra-distinction to a part of our world beset by injustice, violence, fear, and fatalism.
Over 800 Oblates work to override the reality by making the Gospel a song of hope for the poor and oppressed. The oldest Oblate presence in Africa dates back to 1852, with the arrival of French Oblates in Natal. Their outreach was to the tribes of the area, especially the Zulu, Basotho, and the Batswana. Shortly thereafter, Oblate establishments came up in Lesotho, Namibia, Angola, and Zaire. | |

The Church in Lesotho has known an impressive growth since the Oblates first arrived. This area is blessed with many vocations and will soon be sending many missionaries to all parts of the world. |
