When our founder, St. Eugene de Mazenod, began our order in 1816, he set out to help the poorest and most in need around the world. His calling to the priesthood came from God just as God called on Mary to be the mother of Jesus.
Our Heavenly Mother is known for her healing love and tender spirit. Throughout history, the sites of her apparitions have become places for pilgrimage for countless faithful seeking her guidance and protection.
One of her most popular, and one that holds special significance for Oblate Missions, is in Lourdes, France. In 1858, Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to St. Bernadette 18 times in a five-month span. During one of these apparitions, Mary instructed 14-year-old Bernadette to dig at the foot of the grotto, and a spring of water was revealed. This spring still flows today, and the water has been known to heal those suffering severe illness or injury, drawing millions of faithful each year.
I was blessed to travel to Lourdes, France, last year (Feb 2020) to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes on her feast day, February 11. The beauty and grandeur of the Shrine along with the opportunity to be there with the more than 10,000 people in attendance was the greatest display of faith I have ever witnessed. For safety reasons, I will be there in spirit for the February 11, 2022 celebration, praying for and with the entire Mazenodian-Oblate Family.
Your support for Oblate Missions demonstrates your personal devotion to Our Heavenly Mother, and to I thank you for your very generous support.
Your gifts have helped provide families around the world with desperately needed physical and spiritual assistance. Through your gifts, our Missionary Oblates reach out in compassion to care for God’s most neglected children.
Together, we have accomplished so much to improve the lives of the poor…
But there is much more that needs to be done, and many more souls longing for salvation around the world.
I hope you will continue aiding in our efforts by making a gift today to provide Christ’s consolation and hope to our sisters and brothers living in extreme poverty.
I have arranged for a special Mass to be celebrated on February 11, 2022, in your honor at Lourdes, France, where Our Lady appeared to St. Bernadette. At this Mass, you and your loved ones will be remembered, asking for the intercession of Our Heavenly Mother to have Our Lord reward your devotion.
Please join me in prayer as we ask the Blessed Mother to present our needs to her son, Jesus Christ.
Please also be assured that you have a very special place in my heart and in the hearts and prayers of all the Missionary Oblates who serve the “poorest of the poor” around the world.
In Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate,
Fr. David P. Uribe, OMI
Oblate Chaplain Director
P.S. I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas. As we begin this new year, please remember the Missionary Oblates in your generosity so that we can continue to work together to take the Good News of Our Savior around the world. May God bless you and keep you well!
