When our founder, St. Eugene de Mazenod, began our order in 1816, he set out to help the poorest and most in need. His calling came from Our Heavenly Father, but his inspiration came from a deep devotion to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Our Heavenly Mother is known for her healing love and tender spirit. Throughout history, the sites of her apparitions have become pilgrimage destinations for the countless faithful seeking her guidance and protection.
One of her most popular, and one that holds special significance for Oblate Missions, is in Lourdes, France. In 1858, Our Lady of Lourdes appeared to St. Bernadette 18 times in a five-month span. During one of these apparitions, Mary instructed 14-year-old Bernadette to dig at the foot of the grotto, and a spring of water was revealed. This spring
still flows today, and the water has been known to heal those suffering severe illness or injury, drawing millions of faithful each year.
I was blessed to travel to Lourdes, France, in 2020, to visit the Shrine of Our Lady of Lourdes on her feast day, February 11. The beauty and grandeur of the Shrine along with the opportunity to be there with the more than 10,000 people in attendance was the greatest display of faith I have ever witnessed. For safety reasons, I will be there in spirit for the February 11, 2022 celebration, praying for and with the entire Mazenodian-Oblate Family.
Your support for Oblate Missions demonstrates your personal devotion to Our Heavenly Mother, and to thank you for your very generous support, I have arranged a very special gift of prayer for you…
Fill out the prayer petition form below and at the upcoming celebration, you and your loved ones’ needs for prayer will be lifted to Our Heavenly Mother to ask for her healing love and guidance.
I have also included a prayer to Our Lady to protect you through Her personal intercession on your behalf. I hope this gift of prayer will bring you the joy and peace of Mother Mary, just as your support brings great joy and healing into the lives of the mission poor.
Prayer to Our Lady of Lourdes
Blessed Mother of Lourdes,
we entrust our needs to you because you know the many issues in our lives.
Intercede for us with your Son, Jesus,
to provide healing in both body and spirit.
Help us regain hope and retain our faith.
In you, we place all our trust because you are our faithful and loving mother.
Your gifts have helped provide families around the world with desperately needed physical and spiritual assistance. I hope today when you send your prayer petitions, you will also make a gift to provide Christ’s consolation and hope to our sisters and brothers living in extreme poverty.
Through your gifts, our Missionary Oblates reach out in compassion to care for God’s most neglected children. Together, we have accomplished so much to improve the lives of the poor… but there is much more that needs to be done, and many more souls longing for salvation around the world.
Please accept my gift of prayer and send your prayer petitions as soon as possible. I hope we can be joined in prayer on February 11 as we ask the Blessed Mother to present our needs to her son, Jesus Christ.
And be on the lookout for an important announcement in upcoming mailings! It’s an exciting time to be part of the Mazenodian Oblate Family and we can’t wait to share the big news with you.
Be assured that you have a very special place in my heart and in the hearts and prayers of all the Missionary Oblates who serve the “poorest of the poor” around the world.
In Jesus Christ and Mary Immaculate,
Fr. David P. Uribe, OMI
Oblate Chaplain Director
