Welcome to Oblate Academy!

Exposing our children to stories of the Saints are important for their faith development. The Saints are heroes of the faith! We are called to be like the Saints and live for Jesus! My brother Missionary Oblates, much like, St. Jude Thaddeus, spend their lives working hard for our Lord Jesus Christ ministering to the poor and most abandoned throughout the world.

I hope you will enjoy the story of St. Jude and live close to Christ like him!

Saint of the Month
St. Jude Thaddeus

“Lord, how is it that you will manifest yourself to us, and not to the world?”
(John 14:22)

St. Jude also known as St. Jude Thaddeus, was one of Jesus’ twelve apostles. He is not the same person that betrayed Jesus and turned him over to the soldiers in the garden. His mother was the Virgin Mary’s cousin so that makes him Jesus’ cousin.

St. Jude was with Jesus at the last supper. St. Jude asked Jesus why he would not show himself to others but only to the apostles. Often you will see pictures of St. Jude with a small flame above his head. The flame is the symbol of the Holy Spirit. During Pentecost, which is 50 days after Easter, the apostles were gathered together in a room and were filled with the Holy Spirit. Small flames came to rest over their heads. In other photos you might see St. Jude with a ruler or a book.

St. Jude left his home to preach the gospel of Jesus to others so they too could become closer to God. He traveled far away to many places. Sometimes he performed miracles in these places.

St. Jude was persecuted for his belief in Jesus and for his love of Jesus. When he died, his body was brought to Rome. He is buried at St. Peter’s Basilica. Many people come to Rome to visit his tomb. When someone has big problems, or is facing a difficult situation, they will pray to St. Jude. The will ask him for help with their problems especially when they feel lost and without hope. St. Jude’s feast day is Oct. 28

Child’s Prayer to St. Jude

St. Jude, please be my friend. Help me to be like you and obey Jesus every day. Pray for me in times of need, and help me each day have the gift of hope especially when things are hard.
St. Jude, pray for us!
